As we think about being with Jesus, let’s remember that this all started with God’s desire to be with us. God created us in order that He could be with us and we with Him. Our very purpose for existing is to be in relationship with God. As the Westminster Shorter Catechism says, the chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.
This is the story of Bible
It’s hard to imagine the God of creation wants to be with us, but it’s true. This is the story of the Bible: God creating man to be with Him, man rejecting that relationship through sin, and God restoring the path to relationship by redeeming His creation through Jesus. God’s love for you is immense. Believe it.
Think of it this way: before the first act of creation, God knew that man would reject Him through sin. Before He created the heavens and the earth, God the Son knew He would have to come to earth as a man and die in order to redeem His creation (2 Timothy 1:9-10). Jesus knowingly chose this path before He created us – this is the measure of His love for you. This is how much He wants to be with you!
A father with his children
In addition, it’s infinitely beyond belief that the relationship God wants to have with us is more than that of Creator and creation – more than that of a Deity and His worshipers. He wants the relationship of a father with his children. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1) “Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:6, 7)
God wants to walk with you in your daily life the way a father walks with his child. Believe it! Don’t allow Satan to steal away this most precious truth about our God.
God will live with us forever
It was God’s desire to walk with His children in Eden. It is His desire to walk with us now, today. And at the end of time God will redeem His creation, and His desire to dwell with His children will be fulfilled. “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.’” (Revelation 21:3)
All of human history is about God working to redeem His children, to restore the relationship lost in Eden, so that once again He can be with us. Choose to be with Him. Choose to be with Jesus.
Be blessed!
